About the Museum

Located on beautiful park land in the heart of Kansas City, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art contains rich collections that bring together masterpieces from every culture and period of the world, spanning over 5,000 years. The new Bloch Building adds an illuminating presence to the Nelson-Atkins. With 165,000 additional square feet, the Museum is able to exhibit many works of art that haven’t been on view for lately, notably the Museum’s renowned collection of American photography.

The Nelson-Atkins has prestigious collections of European and American art, but it is known above all for its magnificent collection of Asian art, notably the arts of China.

The Kansas City Sculpture Park on the Museum’s lawn contains the country’s largest collection of monumental bronzes by the British sculptor Henry Moore as well as works by other modern masters such as Auguste Rodin, George Segal and Alexander Calder. Shuttlecocks, a four-part outdoor sculpture of giant badminton “birdies” by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, has become a landmark on the city’s cultural landscape.

The Nelson-Atkins has a Museum Store that offers extensive selections of art and design books, children’s books and toys, cards, exhibition catalogs, CDs and beautiful home décor items. Whether you are looking for the perfect gift for the art lover in your life, or buying for yourself, you will be sure to find a beautiful selection at the Nelson-Atkins’ Museum Store.

The museum is available for rental for your next big party, reception, or event.  Please visit the museum website for more information.
