Have you ever caught yourself looking forward to the weekend only to have Saturday come and you realize you never planned anything? Well, you are in luck — there are exactly seven weekends left until December and I have got you covered for five of those. Check out these five exciting KC area events you will not want to miss:
When: Saturday, October 14
Where: Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
Admission: $60 for general admission
At the Botanical Brewfest, you can enjoy entertainment as well as the Arboretum’s beautiful gardens and nature trails. Taste over 900 craft beers from both local and regional breweries. And enjoy food, music, and dancing from local restaurants and bands. Tickets are available for advance purchase here.

When: Saturday, October 21
Where: Lee’s Summit, MO
Admission: $15.00 ages 12 & up
Are the KC area haunted houses just not scary enough for you? Head out to Lee’s Summit and look for paranormal activity with trained ghost hunters! Get a first-hand look at the tools experts use to detect spirits. And you can help search for ghost in this historic Missouri town — many of the buildings were built in the 1800’s. You will need tickets for the event and you should plan to walk up to a mile.

Where: The Kemper Outdoor Education Center
Admission: Free with donation
This event is a must for all dog lovers. Enjoy a Halloween costume contest, a one-mile dog walk, Blessing of the Animals, and more. Receive information from a variety of dog-related services including Adopt-a-Pet, doggie bakeries, and pet groomers. And admission is free with your donation of dog food for local animal shelters.
When: November through January
Where: Crown Center Plaza
Admission: $6 or free for children under the ages of 4
This November Kansas City’s only outdoor public ice skating rink will open for its 45th season. Last year, the first skaters were greeted with coffee, hot chocolate, and bagels. And you can bring your own skates if you prefer. Once you get tired of skating, continue the holiday spirit by heading over to look at the Mayor’s Christmas Tree.

Where: Frank White Jr., Softball Complex
Admission: Free
Jackson County’s Christmas in the park is one of Kansas City’s most beloved Christmas traditions. Enjoy over 300,000 lights and 175 animated figures. And the best part is, Jackson County has used to this event to raise more than $1 million for local charities.
