Kansas City may be known for its barbecue but it’s also home to some pretty incredible breweries. And with nearly 20 breweries scattered across the metro area, there is definitely has a growing market for fresh, local beer.
Even the biggest beer enthusiast would have a hard time checking them all out so I have narrowed it down to my top six favorites. Here are six KC-area breweries you need to check out:
Founded in 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company is the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest and a Kansas City staple. The tasting room is open seven days a week from 11 AM to 4 PM and the brewery offers a number of private and public tours.
Boulevard offers a wide selection of seasonal brews and are known for their Pale Ale and Unfiltered Wheat.
Cinder Block Brewery is located in North Kansas City and overlooks the Missouri River. It has grown to be one of the most popular breweries in the area.
Their selection of beers includes everything from wheat, porter, ale, and IPA. They serve beer on-site in their taproom as well as in various bars around town.
Located in the heart of Westport, McCoy’s is one of the best spots in KC to stop in for a beer. Their standards beers are fairly typical of most breweries but their special release beers truly stand out from the crowd. Stick around and enjoy your beer and a meal out on the patio.
Crane Brewing Company is a small brewery located in Raytown. It is a little bit off the beaten path and the tasting room probably only seats about 40 people max.
Ironically, the founder doesn’t particularly care for the taste of beer but enjoys the process of making it with his sons. They focus on Belgian style and sour beers and have a fantastic selection of unique beers.
Border Brewing Company opened in 2015 and was named for the bi-state border separating Missouri and Kansas. Located in the Crossroads Art District, Border is a small brewery with an awesome selection of beers.
Try out the Patio Extra Pale Ale or the Rooftop Red Ale. Then head over to Twitter and vote for the next beer you want them to brew. Just make sure you include #webrew4you.
Located in the Waldo area, the Kansas City Bier Company focuses on brewing German-style beers. You can drink and dine in the tasting room and even watch German football. Most weekends you can enjoy live accordion music as well.
